Llangrannog Beach

Located just north of Cardigan in Southwest Wales, Llangrannog is a fantastic beach with a constantly changing dynamic depending on the tide. With coves, waves and rocky crags, it offers plenty of exploring for adventurous kids of all ages. At low tide it is even possible to walk around to a secluded beach just around the cliff head – this is also accessible by a steep step path which starts near the Quay Cafe. There are plenty of pubs, restaurants and takeaways with delicious homemade ice cream available at the beach cafe.

It is not the most easily accessible beach with a steep winding road leading from the main road, but there is a free car park at the top of the hill just outside the village which is linked by a shuttle bus to the beach area. There is also a car park near the beach – but it is almost always full and is quite costly (but worth it if you have a lot of beach gear).

We found the beach by accident when we were unable to find a parking space at a nearby beach. But it became our go-to beach for our short holiday in this part of Wales. The kids had great fun exploring the rocks and caves, and it was sheltered enough to be able to use our inflatable kayak. Kayaks are widely available for hire and it seems to be a popular beach amongst local water-sport enthusiasts. Dogs are permitted on part of the beach.

Watch the timings of the tides as you may find yourself constantly shifting back up the beach if you position yourself too close to the shoreline.
