You might not have heard the word ‘fika’ but when you visit West Sweden you’ll love doing it, sometimes three times per day, just like Swedes. The Swedish word ‘fika’ means a coffee or tea break with cakes and biscuits and, in Sweden, it’s a social institution. You can fika at work, or in cafés with friends and family. Many of the Swedish pavement cafes opened on 1 April so now is the perfect time to take the opportunity to enjoy a delicious pastry in the spring sunshine.

One of the best fika towns in West Sweden is Lidköping, also known as Porcelain Town.
