Even if you’re not visiting during Derby season, a trip to Churchill Downs is a must. The Kentucky Derby Museum brings the history and spectacle of “the most exciting two minutes in sport” to life, and guided tours of the track offer a behind-the-scenes look at one of the world’s most famous racecourses.

Urban Bourbon Trail

Louisville is the gateway to bourbon country, and the Urban Bourbon Trail is the perfect place to start. A collection of bars and restaurants across the city offer extensive bourbon selections, giving you a chance to sample and learn without leaving town.

Whiskey Row

Once the heart of the bourbon trade, Whiskey Row has been beautifully revitalised. Today it’s home to distilleries, restaurants and bars, making it a great spot to soak up Louisville’s past and present in one go.

Dedicated to one of Louisville’s most famous sons, this museum is far more than a sports attraction. It’s an inspiring, interactive experience that explores Ali’s life, values and global impact.

Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory

Baseball fans — and even those with a passing interest — will enjoy a visit here. You can see how the iconic bats are made and even hold bats used by some of the sport’s biggest names.

NuLu (East Market District)

NuLu is where Louisville shows its creative side. Think independent galleries, artisan shops, coffee spots and some of the city’s best restaurants. It’s a great area to wander, eat and soak up the atmosphere.

The Highlands

A lively, slightly bohemian neighbourhood known for its bars, restaurants and characterful streets. Bardstown Road is the main artery, lined with everything from casual eateries to more upscale dining options.

Waterfront Park & Big Four Bridge

For something more relaxed, head to the riverfront. Waterfront Park is ideal for a stroll, and the Big Four Bridge — a former railway bridge turned pedestrian walkway — offers great views, especially at sunset.

Old Louisville

Step back in time with a walk through Old Louisville, home to one of the largest collections of Victorian homes in the United States. It’s a quieter, more atmospheric side of the city and perfect for a leisurely wander.
