There are few better ways to explore the hills and villages around Lake Garda than by foot! With spectacular views join our resident outdoorsman, Giovanni, on one of his local adventures.
This is a simple route along the paths of the lower Monte Baldo. I started from the village of Vilmezzano at an altitude of about 440 meters, headed along the path, through woods, past streams, and ancient mills finally reaching the beautiful village of Braga. The focal point of the village is the red stone Church.
Make sure you pack food and drink as there are no bars or shops along this route. If you want to take a longer walk you can continue to the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Corona, a stunning historic mountainside church, built in the early 17th century, which is well worth the additional exertion.
With time being short I returned to Vilmezzano taking a different path that reaches 600 meters above sea level followed by a steep descent on a slightly challenging stony path bringing me back to Braga.
The initial route is less challenging if you are feeling the strain (or the heat!)
The walk requires a minimum level of fitness, but hiking boots and a walking stick are recommended.
Don’t forget a hat, suncream and of course water!
