The Cube Gallery, Goa

Having lived in Goa for a number of years it was often a challenge to find somewhere to visit on a Sunday afternoon away from the beach. After a tweet regarding the Sensorium Exhibition at Sunaparanta in Goa, I was recommended The Cube Gallery. Keen for a new ‘artventure’ I dragged the family out in search of The Cube. As with most things in Goa, there are few clear directions or maps to indicate where the place is located, so we headed for Moira, the village address of the gallery. A quick phone call secured directions and on arrival, we were greeted by the owner, Satinder Singh, who quickly guided us into the gallery.

Gallery

The gallery, set in a contemporary structure, blends neatly with the local Goan and Portuguese architecture. When we visited the gallery was showing an ‘Artable’ exhibition! The exhibition displayed the work of eleven Goa-based artists who had collaborated to transform a series of white console tables into ‘living, breathing works of art.” The styles used range from “cubism to faux-mosaic’ amongst many and the finished pieces were on sale from about Rps20,000 (£220) which seemed more than reasonable for a unique conceptual living room piece.

Owner and Artist

Satinder promises many more exhibitions combining art, design and furniture. Satinder Singh is a man of many talents, being an accomplished Artist, Architect and builder, which he has combined perfectly to produce something quite special in this quiet Goa village.

Moira Church

As we left, Satinder recommended a visit to the neighbouring Moira Church. The Church is a wonderful example of Baroque architecture full of Catholic symbolism and the grounds afford some wonderful views over the surrounding countryside.
