The Black Swan, Helmsley is thrilled to have won the prestigious accolade ‘Hotel of the Year’ at Visit York’s Annual Tourism Awards. The win was announced at a black tie celebration of hospitality excellence held at the Grand Station Hall of York’s National Railway Museum last night, and hosted by Minster FM’s Gayle Lofthouse and Ben Fry.
Other well-known local hotels, Middlethorpe Hotel and Spa, Middleton’s Hotel, The York Marriot and Judge’s Lodgings were finalists in the category.
The Awards, now in their 18th year celebrate the best that York’s tourism has to offer. Categories also included Pub/Bar of the Year, Visit Attraction of the Year, Best Family Friendly Experience and Conference Venue of the Year.
Over 500 local businesses represented the crème de la crème of an industry worth £573m per annum, which supports the employment of 19 000 people and welcomes 6.7m visitors to the local area. It was a record turnout for the event and also attended by the civic party and Right Honourable Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Sonja Crisp.
